What Is This?!?

Just two days ago i was on my computer and suddenly my neck started hurting. i felt it, and it feels like there is a bump underneath my skin. ihave it only on one side under my ear/neck, i don't have it on the other side. my mum said it could be an inflamed tonsil or something not serious. what do you think? could it be cancer? i'm really freaked out! help!

Reply:It sounds like a sswollen gland. It could be from allergies or from an infection. try allergy meds first. If it still hurts after a couple of days, see a doctor because you'll probably need an antibiotic.
Reply:Hard to say about this. It could be you have been at the computer too long and your keyboard is at the wrong height causing you to strain your muscle.


Bottom line is you need to see a Dr if it lasts 3 days or more. The sooner the better. If the pain is right under your ear you need to get to the Dr right away as it could be dangerous. He/she will explain that.

Reply:I would say to go to the doctor's right away you don't want to wait too long. I felt a lump on my neck and when I went to the doctors I was told it was just an infection....yeah little did they know 3 months later I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma stage 4. I'm not trying to scare you it might be nothing, but please go in and get it checked...better safe than sorry...best of luck:)
Reply:A sebaceous cyst. They come up at the joining points between the ear an neck, but they don't usually hurt the whole neck itself.

If its what i think it is then it will look something like this. It is basically a blocked hair follicle where sebum has built up in it. A hot press for 10 minutes twice daily should allow the sebum to be reabsorbed into the body and as a result the cyst should go. However, there is no actually way to get rid of a sebaceous cyst as they will come and go throughout your life unless surgically removed.
Reply:You are lazy, if its seirous then go to your doctor, rememebr, there's only a slight danger when it hurts, except for cancer that doesn't...

Reply:Sounds like you have pulled a muscle but if in any doubt and as with any lump please consult your GP as soon as possible. I would say it is more likely damage from continued computer use. The other thing it could be is a swollen gland. Hope you are sorted soon and that everything is minor.

Reply:for it to suddenly apprear then i would say its not cancer. cancer usually starts off small and then grows it does not start off being a big lump. i think your mums right (they normally are!) if your still worried then go get it checked out but they will probably say the same as your mum. take care and hope mum is right.
