I have a bunch of red bumps and dots all over my legs?

Whether I shave my legs or not, I get little red bumps on my skin. You can't feel them, but you can see red dots perfectly. It's been driving me insane for years. I feel insecure in gym and in a skirt and whatnot. I try putting lotion on after I shave, but it just makes my legs smooth and the red marks stay. Why does this happen? Is there a way I can prevent this or get rid of this? It's so degrading because I feel ugly.

i had the same problem for 2 years before i went to the dermatologist, he said it was folliculitis and gave me oral antibiotics and it went away, he also gave me a topical lotion prescription i used everyday after bathing. i have also tried tea tree oil since then and it has helped, you can buy it and bath and body works and its just the pure oil, then get some plain lotion to mix it with and use it after bathing, it doesnt smell the greatest but the smell doesnt linger.. hope this helps, i felt the same way too and you feel much better when its GONE!!
Reply:I cannot help you with any over the counter remedies but if you see your dermatologist he/she can give the name and how to treat it. It does have a name and can be treated. Make an appointment with your doctor and start feeling better about your legs
Reply:don't shave your legs with the same razor you use on your underarms....deoderant will cause the bumps on your legs...so will certain types of soaps...use a shaving cream/gel and HOT water...always soak your skin before you shave it and don't be in a hurry...if none of this helps...maybe you need to see a dermatologist.
Reply:It seems like you have razor burn and ingrown hairs, the skin is growing over your hair follicles and trapping the growing hair under the skin... They have over the counter remedies for this, I think one is called "Bikini Zone", you can get it from almost any drugstore. It works pretty good, but smells kinda funky. You could also try something to exfoliate the skin on your legs, but wait at least a day after shaving or you may irritate your skin more. I would still recommend seeing a dermatologist 1st, before u do any of this, just to be sure and rule out any other medical conditions.
Reply:It could be keratosis pilaris To be sure though I would see an doctor and ask

If it is this site has some helpful ideas on how to manage it.
Reply:I have them too. I noticed I would get them when I would go tan. I don't know if it's just coincidence. I've been told they're freckles. But hello, they're red. Also, I have keratosis, which are red bumps on the front of my thighs and upper arms. Maybe it's related?
